Research area: Migration, integration and assimilation from a historical perspective
The research area focuses on a very topical theme, namely emigration/immigration and integration into a new society. The studies focus primarily on the Scandinavian emigrants to America and their descendants for 4-5 generations until today. The long-term perspective over several generations provides an in-depth opportunity to analyse and understand the various processes on the journey into the new society.

The research’s focus is based on the formation theory in integration and assimilation, as this has been formulated since the beginning of the 20th century and on comprehensive data from the US Census, US Immigration Data & Statistics, American Community Survey, Wisconsin Longitudinal Studies, etc.

Currently, work is being carried out on the importance of settlement in enclaves and colonies through several generations in relation to assimilation, and the national and ethnic identification of Danish-minded emigrants from North Schleswig in the period 1864 to 1920.
